Morning River Band are a little folk outfit based out of Philadelphia. Their new single, “The Arrow & The Flame” is a classic piece of Americana with soulful vocals and whining guitars that conjure up the same type of imagery the name of the band implies. You can almost hear the cicadas in the early morning sun as the rhythm guitar shuffles along aimlessly yet steeped in purpose. The suggestion of a lead melody pops in and out, meandering around the steady thumping of the rhythm guitar. Finally, the band bursts in and the lead finds its footing—gliding back and forth over the bouncing rhythm. It’s a charming ditty that’s sure to light a fire in your heart.
