The sultry jazz of a late-night TV noir meanders about in the outer dark of a stage somewhere putting vocalist, Gina LC's performance dead in the spotlight. As I listen, I think of Fiona Apple or Portishead and imagine I'm hanging out in the bar in the background of a David Lynch film; as the brushes hiss and scratch on the snare and the piano struts about, I begin to get comfortable with this new jazzy-side of Dear Forbidden's lead vocalist and guitarist—But then suddenly, like a time-lapse flower blooming, a string section sweeps me off my feet and the vocal melody hit's McCartney level heights. The track delicately and expertly settles back into its little pocket of jazz, and while the strings and chorus melody later return, it never hits the grandness of that first reveal.
