"Shirtless and Afraid" is refreshing in an odd way. It's familiar territory but it feels new. This track is just pure pop punk. It's fun, it's punchy, it's loud, and it's catchy as fuck. What more do you want?
So, what's refreshing about it? It's the enthusiasm they bring to the track. You can almost hear them having fun on the track—blasting out power chords and screaming their heads off. Despite being a musician and a total music nerd, I've never actually been that big a fan of going to shows. It's too much hassle for someone with my unique level of laziness and living out in Nowhere, NJ. But "Shirtless and Afraid" is the first time since COVID that I really miss shows. Real shows. Basement shows. Everyone shitfaced and sweaty cause the AC is broken and even if it worked, who can afford the electricity bill? And that's the best compliment I can give a track—I want to drunkenly shout along to the lyrics at a show in some stranger's basement. Again, what more could you possibly want?
