Booze Radly—"Sweetness" (Cover)

--Ada Wofford

----Released 15 April 2021

A band that references liquor and To Kill A Mockingbird? As a drunken lit major, I'm there. Wonder who "scouted" this band? Can't believe I haven't discovered them earlier, I better "go set a watchman." Bet this track is a real "Jem." And something about Dill. But that's all just the alcohol typing. The truth is, even in the sober light of day, Booze Radly rocks.

They took on a cover of "Sweetness" by Jimmy Eat World. A song beloved by all drunks because even they can sing it, "WAAH-OHHHHH!" While Booze Radly keep the music pretty much identical to the original, which is no easy task, the vocals have this caffeine-electric, jittery, processed quality to them that is shocking and at first off-putting but in the end, it makes the track. The track opens with the sound of cans cracking open and whether they're beers or Red Bulls, the slightly-off nature of this cover is appropriate and wholly satisfying. Plus, it's all for a good cause. This track is part of a 90s compilation by Lonely Ghost Records to raise money for MusiCares Covid Relief. So, are you listening?
